Amtrak acela

Acela Express (often simply Acela) is Amtrak's high-speed rail service along the Northeast Corridor (NEC) in the Northeast United States between Washington, D.C., and Boston via Baltimore, Philadelphia, and New York. It uses tilting technology which allows the train to travel at higher speeds on the sharply curved NEC without disturbing passengers, by lowering lateral centrifugal forces,[4] based on the concept of banked turns. Acela Express trains are the only true high-speed trainsets in North America; the highest speed they attain is 150 mph (240 km/h), though they average less than half of that. Acela has become popular with business travelers and by some reckoning has captured over half of the market share of air or train travelers between Washington and New York.[5] Between New York and Boston the Acela Express has up to a 37% share of the train and air market.The Acela gets top billing as Amtrak's premier route, and carried 3.2 million passengers in fiscal year 2010.[1] However, the busiest Amtrak route is the somewhat slower Northeast Regional, which had 7.1 million riders in 2010[1] due to its lower fares and greater number of stops than the Acela. The Acela Express is one of the few Amtrak lines to operate at a profit; the two train lines generate more than half of Amtrak's total revenue.[8] In 2010, the Acela Express had a total revenue of $440,119,294, up from $409,251,483 in 2009

MSTS Acela Cab

MSTS Acela Cab, as it really looks and acts. Based on photos and trips by the author in the actual Acela cab. Includes modified sounds to eliminate the brake rumble and joints in the rails and to make it sound like an electric engine winding up on acceleration. The .eng file also is tweaked to resemble the actual 14,000 HP available but not used by Amtrak. The stock Acela on MSTS seems to peak out around 150 MPH but it actually has the power to exceed that speed and was designed for a possible larger amount of coaches. You can exceed the top speed of 150 MPH but it is not the speed limit for the track it runs on. By George L. Kenson.

Acela HHP-8

The Acela HHP-8 is a double-ended electric locomotive manufactured by a consortium of Bombardier and Alstom. HHP-8 stands for High HorsePower 8000. The HHP-8s replaced the GE E60s and supplement the aging AEM-7s on Amtrak's Northeast Corridor, though some of the AEM-7s have been upgraded to AEM-7ACs to match the hauling power of the HHP-8s. The locomotive can haul Amfleet cars at speeds of up to 125 mph (201 km/h). They are sometimes referred to by train crews as "Hippos", "Rhinos", and "Bananas". Maryland Area Rail Commuter (MARC) also operates HHP-8s on its Penn Line between Perryville and Washington, DC.
